Skills training and team building to strengthen relationships with colleagues and collaborators.

Chang Liu
Former Sr. Design PM - Product Equity & Social Impact

“The Power of Your Voice series of workshops has been one of the most impactful programs I’ve brought to our Women@ Employee Resource Groups. It has given the women in our ERG specific skills and communication strategies that, in turn, helps them feel empowered to communicate their value and to tell the story of their impact. That’s also helped us build a stronger sense of community, and started some much needed conversations.”

Work Better Together

Below are examples of workshops we’ve built for companies in the past. Nothing is “off the shelf”. Every workshop is tailored to meet a group’s specific needs. If something from our past work speaks to you, reach out to discuss how we can adapt it for you.

Skills Training

  • “With the opportunity to hone skills we learned from the Developing Presence and Impactful Presentations workshops, I have not only built confidence but also increased my ambition to participate and speak at larger and more challenging events to test my new capabilities.” - Srujana Dusari, Technical Program Manager, Meta

Leadership is a skill, and presence is a practice. And fundamental to strong leadership presence is clear and authentic communication. So how do you ensure your message is not only heard, but resonates, in any medium? This workshop will lay a sturdy foundation for you to build your communication muscle towards stronger leadership presence and better business outcomes.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Connect to purpose, and identify a clear “why” from the start

    • Get to know your audience, and frame everything around them

    • Build a compelling narrative with structure and simplicity

    • Prepare effectively to alleviate anxiety

    • Define presence for yourself

  • Companies today are often in a high growth-big risk frame of mind. You need to act quickly, decisively and with maximum impact. That’s a lot of pressure! How can you be your best self when forced to think on your feet? Thankfully, we know a variety of techniques to help with situations that call for spontaneous input, and we’ll help you practice them in a supportive and encouraging environment.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Reduce stress and increase confidence to speak extemporaneously

    • Initiate small talk and increase rapport

    • Ask effective questions to give yourself time to think proactively

    • Bridge questions to answers

    • Organize your thoughts into segments

    • Own the Q&A format

  • “Peter is a consummate professional whose experience and passion helped to make my presentations highly effective. From organization and structure through rehearsals and final delivery, Peter’s creative and supportive coaching has been a great experience." - Leland Faust, Financial Expert, Speaker, and Author of The Capitalist’s Lament

We’ve all experienced a great presentation, and some that are not so great. The best ones leave us informed and inspired. The worst ones put us off, or worse - they put us to sleep. How do you create memorable presentations that resonate with your audience and drive them to action? We’ll show you the way in three essential areas: audience and influence; story and structure; design principles.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Understand the difference between strategic and tactical presentations

    • Influence others ethically and effectively

    • Define your audience and understand what they want

    • Create messaging and positioning

    • Balance visuals with text and spoken language

  • The performance review is an essential tool used almost universally in corporate environments. Despite its ubiquity, employees and managers alike often dread this process instead of seeing it as an opportunity for growth. How can you harness the review process to achieve real and sustained development at your current employer and throughout your career? We’ll teach you to communicate your impact clearly and demonstrate your relevance. Both employees and managers have consistently rated this workshop a remarkable Net Promoter Score of 100.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Articulate the value and impact of your work

    • Define your unique strengths

    • Reflect on challenges and setbacks in a productive manner

    • Prepare for effective discussions with your manager

    • Develop a constructive vision for your professional growth

    • Integrate insights and shared wisdom from others on your team

  • “Brandon really challenged me to target true impact and to minimize some of the fluff that I realized later was distracting. He did all of this while still empowering me and ensuring that I was learning but also remaining true to myself.” - Drucilla Peace, Administrative Specialist, Meta

In one form or another, we’ve all had to write for work, whether it’s an email, report or pre-read. But what makes writing powerful? How can you be more intentional in your writing to ensure effective messaging? We’ll show you how to bring clarity, concision, and impact to all your work-related writing.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Identify audience and purpose

    • Employ storytelling tools

    • Organize ideas strategically

    • Write strong openings that engage your reader

    • Revise and edit to achieve clarity and concision

Team Building

  • “The workshop and the subsequent excellent interactive 1:1 with Deborah have given me the tools to better navigate the culture at Meta, and continues to play a significant role in my business and personal interactions with others. It was, for me, the most valuable course I have ever taken allowing me to understand, appreciate and accommodate the differences in communication styles.” - Jason Snaggs, Acting Director, Sustaining Operations, Meta

The companies we admire are full of high-performing, cross-functional, geo-diverse teams all working to execute a collective mission. But silos seem to emerge despite everyone’s best efforts. How can we better understand our teammates' communication styles and foster empathy to improve collaboration? Solid team communication begins with learning to listen, being adaptable, and remaining open to feedback.

Strictly Speaking Group is certified in DiSC and Myers-Briggs Type Instrument. We’ll use Myers-Briggs assessments to help identify your strengths and recognize those of their teammates (you’ll also receive individualized Myers-Briggs reports on your own results).

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Give and receive feedback with openness

    • Discover how to adapt to different communication styles to collaborate more effectively

    • Actively build empathy and trust

    • Define intent versus impact

  • Our workforce is global but our workplaces remain largely homogenous when it comes to spoken language, which puts pressure on our non-native English speaking colleagues. As a multilingual speaker, how can you reduce your stress when communicating in English? We’ll focus on listener-friendly delivery and simple techniques to increase clarity.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Identify bias in accented speech and how it affects communication

    • Understand listener-friendly speech

    • Modulate stress, rhythm, and flow to increase understandability

    • Use tone and inflection to communicate confidence

    • Employ simple strategies and helpful technology to increase clarity

    • Learn from others in a non-critical environment

  • Giving, receiving and requesting feedback are the building blocks of growth. But they can become big sources of stress and anxiety for individuals and teams. How can we reframe feedback as constructive opportunities? By practicing openness, receptivity and conscientiousness.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Focus on context, alignment and feed-forward responses

    • Assess “threat” versus “thrive” responses

    • Take a growth perspective for individuals and teams

    • Utilize templates for initiating a feedback model

    • Identify and apply immediate action steps

    • Generate feedback that is both informative and motivational

  • Negotiation is the bedrock of collaboration. Great leaders understand that give and take is an inherent part of getting things done. But negotiation is often interpreted as compromise. How can you extract more value from your interactions and problem-solve collaboratively to reduce conflict and build stronger relationships? We'll help teams discern and articulate goals through firm but diplomatic communication to understand and appeal to interests on all sides of the table.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Understand and leverage finite versus infinite relationships

    • Establish common ground

    • Clarify without conceding

    • Employ effective questioning techniques

    • Utilize the EARS method

    • Practice in dyads

  • Teams today are likely to include employees from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In a recent survey from the Economist Intelligence Unit, 90% of executives from 68 countries cite “cross-cultural management” as their top challenge in working across borders. What can teams do to bridge divides and embrace cultural diversity? To work effectively, teams need to develop cultural competence.

Strictly Speaking Group is certified by the Cultural Intelligence Center. In this introductory workshop you’ll learn how to:

    • Discuss intercultural challenges

    • Take a Cultural Values Assessment and review the results

    • Appreciate why culture matters

    • Map cultural diversity

    • Understand your individual CQ (Cultural Intelligence)

    • Learn the four areas of CQ: drive, knowledge, strategy and action

    • Generate a team plan for cultural competency
